Malta work visa process - step by step
From job offer to landing in Malta, here's exactly what happens, in what order, and what each step costs.
Step 1 - Job offer
Apply via licensed recruitment agencies or directly. Confirm the employer is licensed by Identità before signing.
Step 2 - Single permit application
Your employer files the single-permit application. You provide your passport, qualifications, photos and any required documents.
Step 3 - Approval in principle
Identità issues approval in principle once the application passes initial checks. This is what unlocks the Skills Pass and D-visa steps.
Step 4 - Skills Pass Pre-Departure
Complete Parts 1, 2 and 3 of the Skills Pass. Practise on SkillPass Prep until you score 80%+ on mock exams before booking the official slot.
Step 5 - VFS D-visa appointment
Book your long-stay D-visa appointment at the VFS Global Malta centre in your country. Bring your passport, single-permit approval, Skills Pass certificate and supporting documents.
Step 6 - Travel and residence permit
Fly to Malta on your D-visa and collect your residence permit card within 90 days of arrival.
