Malta Skills Pass speaking interview - practice guide
The Skills Pass Part 3 speaking interview is where most South Asian and Gulf candidates lose points - not because their English is bad, but because the timer and proctor format throw them off. Here's how to practise.
Format of the speaking interview
You'll see a prompt on screen, the proctor (or system) records you, and you have a fixed time to respond. Prompts cover everyday workplace scenarios: introducing yourself, handling a guest complaint, describing a past role, asking for help safely.
Common prompt types
Self-introduction (name, country, experience). Customer scenario (a guest is unhappy with their meal - what do you do?). Workplace scenario (you don't understand a task - how do you ask for help?). Daily-life scenario (describe your route to work).
How to practise
Record yourself out loud. Speak slowly. Use complete sentences. Aim for 3–5 sentences per answer. Don't try to be perfect - be clear. SkillPass Prep's speaking module gives you exactly this format with self-preview.
Common mistakes
Freezing under the timer. Speaking too quickly. Mumbling. Answering with single words. Not addressing the actual prompt. All of these are fixable with practice.
